It's interesting that recent technology now consumes so much of some of these librarian's days--RSS, blogs, ebay seminars, google applications, website updating, etc.

The digital branch manager even gets to be tech support by default...

I saw some similar book art at a gallery down on Geary during open studio days. Great stuff, if damaging to books.

I love the library. I have really good memories of going there when I was a kid with my parents, taking out books. I also really like the resources that are avaialable there, the research that can be done. But I have to admit, that I never think of utilizing the library when I have a question these days - I turn to the Web. Most of my questions are simple ones, which might be the primary problem - I can get the answers to most question quickly online. The types of questions that I think of going to the library for are more research-oriented, tricker questions that are more difficult to find the answers for.

Maybe the solution lies in the libraries determining in what way they are the most helpful - for example, I would love a way to find out if book that I'm going to buy is available in my local library before I buy it on amazon. I would much rather get the book from the library, but the issue is often that the books I want aren't available. An application that allows a local searching of books, and a way to get the books transferred to my local branch, would be an app that I would come back to time and time again.

And if there is a service that librarians are able to provide that is best done using them - it would be great to have that information publicized. A PR campaign may just go a long way.

Keep up the good work!!

This made me think how it never hurts to pick up some production training in creating videos with fun effects like the one from OCPL.

Now I'm off to check out SFPL's upcoming offering. It looks like it's related to OverDrive's services. Their Digital Bookmobile is making the rounds in the Bay Area in the coming week. On May 3, they'll be in Pittsburg (yes, CA), May 4 in Hercules, and in SF on May 8-9. I think they are working hard to educate users on how to enjoy Overdrive's offerings via their local library.

Hi Dawn - Debbie Faires shared this with me. It's GREAT!!!

I don't know enough about what you have done "technology-wise" to know if this is a one-time snapshot or if it can be set to continually re-new and add new jobs and new locations. In either case - I do see implications for how SLIS students could find this helpful in their job search. Can we talk off-line about your mash-up and potential uses?

Great mashup Dawn. I would have never thought to combine the location extractor. Now I want to play some more with pipes and see what else I can come up with. I also like Heather's idea having this application for the SJSU internships.

One of my friends posted a link to the NYPL Labs on Facebook the other day, and I thought it was really neat. It's interesting to see the things they're doing. A lot of tech companies have "labs" websites for their tech experiments, so it's neat to see a library that has one!

Neat! This made me think that it would be cool to do something similar with the SJSU Internship Database.
